Really like the upgrade. I am not a huge fan of hoods on tanks, but this does a great job "levitating" and also saving retinas.
the long cable idea would be the worst spider web magnet to clean!

is that windex by a tank ?!?!:eek::eek:

That looks amazing, nice job. Was that a DIY project?

Yes, I build staircases and it was a spare U channel I had left over from a job. Typically they are installed vertically for a glass guardrail but I flipped it on it’s side for my application. It is rated to hold 200lbs at 42” out so I figured it could hold a couple ap700’s at 24” out just fine.

One of these days I should really update this!

I was really struggling with Nitrates in the tank, they were typically between 25 and 50ppm. I'd add SPS and it would last 2 weeks and then bleach out overnight. I had @Dr.DiSilicate, @Andrew_bram, @Djmm1177 and others helping me try to find the reasons and solutions. Thanks for the help guys! I tried a biopellet reactor, but that didn't help. I tried dosing NoPox, which didn't seem to help. And then I added a DIY algae turf scrubber which is growing algae like crazy, and in conjunction with carbon dosing vinegar my nitrates are really low. I've backed off the carbon dosing hoping they would come up slightly (like to 2ppm?) but they are still reading 0ppm on the Salifert test. My daily dose of vinegar is at 10mL. Anyway, as the tank nears the 1 year mark I've been able to add SPS and not have it die! I have a piece of tri-color that is encrusting over the glue, and some green slimer that is starting to branch out and encrust over the plug. I added a yellow tip acro, blueberry diesel, miami orchid, monti's, lepto, and setosa and all are surviving.

I'll try to get some pics when I stop being lazy, but definitely on the tanks 1 year anniversary which is Jan 20th 2020.

Mine constantly are "clear" on Salifert. This is not zero if you have stuff growing, but likely less than one part per million. In an ICP test, mine were about .1 while being "clear." Keep in mind that .1 is about twice as much natural seawater. Also keep in mind, that most corals prefer to get their nitrogen from ammonia/ammonium which have always been in constant supply if you have been feeding the same amount - it costs the coral a whole bunch of energy to get nitrogen from a no3 molecule, but the molecule can act as a poison as levels get elevated. Anyway, I am glad that you got it figured out.

Throughput with heavy import and heavy export are still better than high residuals... but the current trend to high residuals is real but disturbing mostly, I believe, from people who "have to have a number" and cannot quantify heavy in/out. Keep feeding, keep skimming, keep changing water and keep growing that algae.

I am getting ready for the 1 year "tankaversary" on Jan. 20th. I'll post some photos and summarize what I have goin on in this tank. Although not as impressive as some tanks, I feel like it has turned a corner and heading the right direction!

Today I replaced my T5's, I was running 2 coral+ and 2 blue+.....I ditched the coral+'s and went with 2 of the true actinics and 2 blue+. It's only been an hour or so but I really like it so far! A lot more coral pop out of the actinics, the coral+ was a lot whiter than I would have guessed.

How are you liking your nero5s?
I like them a lot, they were simple to connect to Bluetooth through the AI app, and I spent some time and programmed one....then set the other as it's opposite slave. So when one is ramping up the other is ramping down. I have periods of random flow, periods of pulsing, a little constant on at 20% during the overnight. Seems pretty versatile! However thick my glass is must be near the peak of thickness though. One side fell off one day, but I was home to see it so no problems. But all of those reviews that mention not for thick glass are true unless you can beef up the magnets somehow. The internets says my tank is 1/2" glass which, if I remember correctly, is the max thickness.

@Andrew_bram had a brand new one, never been in water, that he was thinking of possibly selling. If you might be looking for one. He also has one on his upstairs cube.

Don't know what kind of magnets they have on them, but what I have done since my glass is 3/4" is I've gotten the flat neodymium magnets and just added on the outside of the outside magnet. Don't put them up against the glass the vibrations will scratch the glass over time. I have also learned that if it falls off once it will probably keep doing it. I had to order the stronger magnets for the Tunze Stream 3's because of that.
