Are the threads stripped? Many of my L/G pumps I have, the threads stripped out. It's a plastic to metal thing.

Just put the studs through the impeller housing them spread some epoxy on the threads, install into the adapter. Allow to set up for a while before attaching the volute. If it's real bad you can even epoxy the studs into the impeller housing. Since it's o-ring sealed you really don't need to tighten that much.
