Jahmic posted an article on the PH thread and the article mentions this

"The importance for aquarists is that if the magnesium concentration is too low, it may not adequately play this role. In that situation, pumps and heaters (and any warm object) may get coated with precipitating calcium carbonate. Further, that precipitation removes calcium and alkalinity from the aquarium, making it harder to maintain adequately high levels of these two parameters."
Is that why my heater has all this stuff on it, cause quite frankly , as sad as it is, I dont understand what this article means lol

I have no way to test magnesium.
But last night my calcium was around 380
and ALk was around 10


I added some bio calcium but when i read that it made me thing of my heater right away

Mag, Alk, and Calc should be your major tests for import chem's. No3 and Po4 should be too, but they are export tests.

Most new tanks, with softies and a few LPS get thier Mag from water changes. Depending on how stocked your tank, will depend on how much or when you need to add.

Bring over some water when you pick up that macro this weekend and I can test your mag as well :)
