Glass strength

Not sure where to post this, but this was a co worker showing some new people in our shop the actual ability of glass to deflect, without breaking, if it’s tempered. This does not apply to annealed.
https://flic.kr/p/2nE5QAq Again do not do this with annealed glass.

I’m not suggesting anyone go out and build a 100 gallon rimless tank with 1/4” tempered glass. That won’t go well. But, glass typically can hold more than we as hobbyists think. There are good calculators out there for building tanks and the glass sizes recommended so don’t use this as any suggestion.

I just wanted to share some impressive visuals.

I use tempered glass for some of the guardrails on the stairs that I build. In this case these are 9/16” laminated pieces. That’s two 1/4” pieces of tempered glass with a 1/16” plastic interlayer. I use a upgraded Sentry interlayer that adds some structural support so it doesn’t just flop over of both layers of glass shatter.
