yikes, but glad the crack didn't result in the tank water all over your floor

Any idea what caused the crack?

Most likely my fault. I think it happened the last time I changed filter sock. Probably from exerting pressure on that back panel when monkeying around with the filter sock holder.

This is becoming a bit of an experiment. I still have the temporary 10 gallon sump in place. No skimmer. Sump has some some live rock rubble and ceramic media in it. Corals seem to be doing better under these conditions. Not in any hurry to get new sump and skimmer back online.

I pulled my skimmer out of my 58g as the softies really loved the "dirtier" water. sounds like your system is happy! did you up the flow too?

That was my issue that then lead to an epic battle with hair algae. So just discount double check to make sure you have adequate flow!
Are you referring to the flow within display or flow/turn over through the sump?
I know exactly what you're talking about with the discount double check though. ;)

That makes sense. Thanks for bringing up your experience with taking skimmer off a system. I'll be watching for signs of excess nutrients in the tank. I think the bio load is manageable for now without the skimmer. I'll turn up the MP40s if I see any algae growth.
