So, would one of these be better than a few maxijet 1200s in my SPS tank?
Depends on what model you believe I hate laminer flow. So one pump is never enough for me. The 210 has two wp40 and it is great flow. One on wave the other to circulate. Plus I think a Maxijet is for mixing water or undergravel unles you are running the broadflow mod.

When you start to fill a tank up with rock and growing SPS, the wave gets smaller. I have a tunze wavebox that can do that in an empty tank, but the wave goes down to about 2" with actual stuff in it. As the tank gets full of SPS, you have to adjust the box quite a bit... like every 3 months.

Can those things do a single side to side wave instead of the dual wave?

BTW - I was just kidding about the mj1200s. I am sorry that some of you thought that I was serious. ...but in all seriousness, you can have just as nice of a tank with a sea swirl and a few power heads as you can with Tunze, MP, WP, etc... most of that flow is for the reefer, not the reef, IMO. However, the tunze and MPs are way more reliable and last longer with less wattage.
