Will copepods die in fresh water?

So I had a nice amount of copepods when I added some caulerpa. But they have seemed to start disappearing a lot, more so, the smaller ones. When I do my top off, I poor the water right into my return pump section so it mixes quickly. But ever so often I'll spill some fresh water into the fuge. Would that be enough to kill smaller copepods? I have only seen two copepods in my DT, so I don't think that many little ones could have hitched a ride up and not be noticed.

Copepods typically breed in coastal waters, lagoons and estuary's. In other words they are used to pretty big changes in salinity. I wouldn't suspect that being the reason for decline in your population.

What type of fish do you have in the DT?

My 3 wrasses deplete my pods fairly quickly. Although the small cope pods breed well in the fuge and make their way to the DT, I had to add them monthly until they were able to keep up. I rarely see amphipods...no matter how many I add, the wrasses and anthias make quick work of them in the DT.
