I'd personally hate to drop 15 bills on a tank, and have to learn the ropes.

My thought is start with something less expensive, and work your way up. Learning to maintain your own tank will take time, and there's no sense in risking an established tank to a crash due to a simple mistake.

If it is a fish only tank you buy, check for nitrates. I made the mistake of not doing this on my 72gal (newer to hobby) and have been paying for it. Nitrates (in my experience) don't leave rock/tank/equip easily.
Professionally maintained and healthy fish can mean squat in a tank if you want a reef tank.
