So when I came to work today, the fish tank light was off on my 40g breeder. The bulb is only a month old, and it's not the timer. So apparently I need a new ballast. Anybody have one lying around they will sell me?

I'd prefer one that takes the regular old 24 inch plant bulbs. But I'm open

I would, but it's probably overkill for a freshwater tank that isn't even really planted. :)

Probably should have mentioned that. Just hoping somebody might have a cheap fixture laying around that takes the 24 inch bulbs.

Do you know what ballast it needs? I have a bunch of t5 ballasts

Unsure. The fixture is at least 4 years old - bought it when I first set up the tank. It's just the regular old cheapo light for the 40g breeder. Just have a fresh plant bulb in it since I've got some marimo in there.

I'll take another look when I get to work in the morning.

Interesting. Didn't know they sold that. Should've looked.

How hard is the wiring work? I did the wiring for our new dishwasher yesterday. If there's no soldering then I can do it.

It's this Aqueon Aquarium AAG25936 Fluorescent Strip Light, 36-Inch

Easy four wire nuts, just have to cut off the end that it comes with and strip the wires.

If you order the replacement ballast I can help you redo it. I might also have something you could use at school but I'd have to look.

The ballast doesn't fit perfect but it will cram in there

Fine by me. I'll order it tomorrow if Mike doesn't have something hidden in a closet somewhere at school. Never know what those mad scientists have up their sleeves.

I'd consider myself an ok electrician. Redid a lot of the wiring in our last house, and do most of the wiring on our diy stuff around here. So I'll give it a shot and send you guys questions if I run into problems
