acros are weird in tanks.

Why is it that some acros do good in my tank, while some bleach change color and die. acropora youngei grows good and color is the almost the same from once I bought the coral. some other die and change color. Its just weird how coral is so sensitive to changes.

I have had similar experiences with chalices. I have had several high dollar chalices do very well and grow for a few months. Then mysteriously start receding on the edge and die. I also have a few chalices that have thrived and grown with no issue. So frustrating.

welcome to the sps game, thats why many well know and aqua cultured frags are worth every penny IE: red planet, cali tort, most birdsnests, and validas. on the same end lots of aussie mini colonies are very cheap, however are not that hardy. I have seen sps melt away for no apparent reason with steady parameters, temp and salinity ect. and thats part of why I like them(the challenge). IMO the most amazing tanks are sps dominated, however being able to keep and maintain them is incredible. I have had red bugs, monti eating nudis, stn and rtn and been completely destroyed. yet I haven't stopped. not my tank, but this is my inspiration.
