Thats sweet!!!! What wattage and what wavelength is the laser? I'm looking at at 2w - 445nm hoping that will do the trick :D

Nope! every now and then one may come back if I don't get it well enough but they don't ever seem to spread. It's kind of weird for the most part they don't seem too bothered by it. I mean they don't retract all that much. They just kind of fall apart. My coral banded likes to come eat the left overs like BBQ.

I REALLY HOPE WHOEVER GOES DOWN THIS PATH KNOWS THE DANGERS OF LASERS> REFLECTING INTO YOUR EYES CAN BLIND YOU FOR LIFE....

That said, that is really cool. How do you know your safety glasses are enough to protect? Did you buy it as a kit and have or build it? If you don't mind asking, how much is something like that?

Yes I know all to well! Its important to always be sure all people and animals are clear of the area or wearing the proper eye protection. I purchased safety glasses that are specifically designed to filter the radiation coming from this particular laser. The site that sells the lasers also sells the glasses. I have two pair so I can have an observer. The price really varies when you start getting above a true 2watts because its not legal in the use to sell operational units above a certain rating. You have to buy the individual pieces and assemble it your self an there are many upgrades and options such as drivers, batteries, battery extensions, lenses, diodes, etc. This one was built to be about as badass as you can get while still being handheld and is about a foot long for somewhere between $1100-$1200. My buddy footed the bill so im not sure on the exact amount but it was in that ball park. I think you can get something equivalent in power for far cheaper around $500 that still uses quality lenses and drivers but they can only operate at peak output for very short bursts. Beware of cheap knock offs claiming to to have the same output. One sure sign that its a knock off is if it comes fully assembled. Another way people get around the cost is by using diodes from cd/DVD players and over-driving them. They will burn out in a very short period of time.

I played with one, very satisfying. but it spread little bastards all over the sand a few months later
I have been using this one for at least 6 months now and have had maybe three new ones show up in the disaply. I zap at least one or two in my fuge every two or three weeks.
Was it Cody's that you used? If so the one he got is nothing like this bad boy I can promise you that! I can see where a lower powered model may just **** it off. You should stop by again and check it out, im willing to bet you a case of beer the one you used is not like this one. :)

WOW...pricey! But effective I've been told! Thats an expensive pest. MASC should buy one of these wholesale and let members rent it for such pests :)

Yeah I was lucky muy buddy wnated it. He isnt a reefer hes just a techy kind of guy. He built it then got bored with it aftera couple weeks and lets me use it now. No way Id pay this much for it. Its cool and works well but not for that kind of money. Personally I think something like this would be a huge liability for MASC. Loaning one of these things out would almost be like loaning out a gun.

Sweet, will have to check out video at home later. I already had a 1w Wicked Arctic laser I picked up a couple years ago for relatively cheap ($250 with glasses?). Then found the huge Aiptasia-zapping thread, will try to find the link. Excellent info about methods and cautions, Kris you probably already seen it?

Wonder if mine is too weak at 1000mw? Haven't read about this in awhile, but definitely will sport the glasses when used. No Aptaisia currently... (knock on wood)

this is amazing. i may need to seed my tank with aiptasia. thanks for sharing, kalgra. hey, you know that pic you posted in your other started thread about your UAS DIY light build? the one with the ugly bobble head troll sitting on the top corner of your computer monitor? with the crooked nose and goatee? well you should shoot that troll right in the mouth with your laser.
