Anemone split

So, I'm not sure if this new green bubble tip had split, or was chopped in half by something. I got him two days ago, and he had been doing rather well until now. I woke up to go to the b-room and I found him shriveled in the corner with a big chunk out of his side. The water parameters check out fine, and the the leather coral not to far away from him isn't effected by him as of yet. I can't find any other pieces of him anywhere either. I thought at first he might of gotten sucked into a pump or something, but he spit right down the mouth and isn't dead yet. He still is attached to the rock as well. I don't know much about how the splitting process works, and should look like. I heard they look bloated right before, which he did a little yesterday afternoon compared to the first day. His cut down the middle just looks so choppy and rough to be a split. I'm not sure if I should take him out incase he dies and releases toxins, or leave him and hope there's now two anemones in my tank. What do you guys think?

I dont think that is what they look like after a split, thats what they look like after they have been in a fight, are melting, or have been subjected to predation.

It does not look anything like a split. But the circumstances support it. A lot of them split when moving tanks due to the stress. splitting normally takes a while, you can youtube video's of BTA's doing it timelapse.

I'm not sure what could have done it out side of one of the pumps. Do you think he will survive, is there anything I should do?

There is always a chance that they can survive. I once had one get sucked into a pump and get TOTALLY shredded. I took out most of the pieces as soon as I cold. There was one larger chunk that had the mouth on it so I thought I would keep it. I put it in the sump, where it stayed for a couple of weeks, before returning to the DT. Than nem is still alive today in a friends tank and has split several times since. The incident was almost 4 years ago.

Just keep a close eye on it, if it starts to melt, it will begin to look like a really nasty booger, take it out. Otherwise I would not put it through any more stress than needed.

I'm hope full. It was cut almost perfectly in half, but slightly off center of the mouth so the mouth is intact. I've looked every where and can't find the other pieces. My guess is they are in the skimmer. Now that the lights are on he's actually expanded a bit and moved a little. Thanks for the help every one.

So he now has begun what looks like splitting off from the chewed up portion. I don't know if it's melting or not, but you now see his inside. His remaining tentacles have almost returned to normal as well, which is strange. The tank doesn't stink yet either.

Unfortunately I went to check on him 10 min ago and he had turned all white. I took him out and he stunk, so I guess that means he melted.
