Anyone into these? I've always had exotics but my last reptiles were a decade ago.

I'd like to get into a Ura or a tegu/monitor (I know quite different). GF has forbade snakes and didnt want lizards but didnt rule none at all. So I've also debated going with things i"ve had before that might be better to wean her onto being ok w/ lizards. (Leapards cute and soft tails, or beardeds calm/lazy though prolly ugly in her eyes.)

The ura/monitors though would be completely new to me so I was seeing if anyone had good local resources/people/etc. Local breeders, great stores, or recommendations from online.

Anyone built their own enclosures? If I do the monitor the plan is a coated/sealed wood "pan" at least a foot deep for room to burrow and an overall cage that is a 6x3 footprint, likely on a stand.

Try Jurassic pet. Thats where by buddies that have lots of reptiles get their supplies and animals.

Been in there once, saw some good signs but a few negative signs. I was planning on stopping in there and Scales n Tails which I went to ages ago and I know is doing well since theyve opened another store or 2. (Doesn't mean they are ethically sound with their care, but doesnt hurt.)

I've heard terrible things about scales and tails. My buddies used to by directly from a local reptile breeder after his brother worked there and saw how horrendus it was. That same reptile breeder opened up Jurassic pet a few years ago.

For species-specific questions I would email Prehistoric Pets in Huntington Beach: info@prehistoricpets.com Nobody knows more about herp keeping than those guys, IMO.
http://www.prehistoricpets.com check out Jay's trophy picks and the breeding packages. The prices will make your eyes fall out of your head.
