Any way to coax a turbo out of his shell?

I managed to grow some zoas on an old Turbo snail shell. I'd like to get one of my existing turbos to use it, and idea how I can coax him out? I think mobile zoas would be sweet.

tough one... maybe you can get a hermit to take over the shell easier than another turbo. Maybe? No idea. If you get it to work, tho, post up some video of your traveling zoa camper!

Aren't they kinda attached to their shells and I don't mean emotionally.

So breaking the existing shell would likely kill the snail? Something I don't wanna do..

Gluing corals to live hermits. Awesome idea but wouldn't the coral just stay closed and die? From all the movement? Would be neat to see some club member pics if anyone did this successfully.

A snail has a muscular attachment to the shell that under normal circumstances cannot be severed. In addition to general protection, the shell provides structural support without which collapse of the lung/gill structures is imminent, leading to possible suffocation.

In other words, what you desire is biologically impossible.

Alright, I'll drop the shell in the display tank, maybe a hermit will take it over some day.

Thx!

You could simply break the shell or remove the zoos manually and glue em on an active turbo.

Yeah, for some reason I thought turbos could outgrow their shell, apparently not...

I think steam and a fork will do it.

I think we need a new thread called "pics of stuff that sat still long enough to glue other stuff to it". Or we could just get an annoying urchin.
