Anyone know what this is growing on my rock?

I got this rock from someone tearing down their tank. After a few weeks these white things started appearing everywhere on the rock. Does anyone know what it is, and how to get rid of it? I've been taking it off during water changes, but it's a big task. Any information would be appreciated.

That algae typically comes in as a hitchhiker, and may eventually disappear on its own. It's calcerous, so it's growth is dependent on your calcium levels. If you don't have an SPS tank, you can try bringing your Ca levels down a little to see if that slows down the growth so that you have an easier time with manual removal.

From what I've read, it produces a chemical that makes it not as palatable as other macros. If you want it gone...manual removal is probably your best bet.

I understand it is good and that it is a hard thing to grow - if you have it your tank (or their tank) is doing well
