Anyone with an Apex unit using the Salinity probe? How are they? Accurate? Junk? TIA

Everything I've read and heard has been that they are not accurate and they drift quite often. I'm going to wait another year before I look back into them

They have gotten a lot better since 2010. The thing that people are not understanding is that the temp probe is required for the calculations. So you need the PM2, salinity probe, and temp probe to get proper readings. Also, the probe does not come calibrated so you must purchase calibration fluid as well.

TLDR: If you want to see the salinity from anywhere and money is not an issue. Get the salinity kit for the Apex. Otherwise just get a Pinpoint monitor. Cheaper bang for your buck.

Mine is only 18 months old, with seperate temp probe, and I got real sick or troublshooting it with Paul at Neptune. He replaced the probe first, and I did everthing he mentioned, and it's still all over the place. He even later replaced the PM2 module. I imagine it's good for testing RO water, but not salt in a reef. I wish I wouldn't have paid for it and today I stick with my refractometer.
