So yesterday i decide to bring my 2 yr old daughter to work yesterday while i was working on my last client of the day my 12 yr old yelled out dad remee is pouring paint into your tank. .. She dump the whole bottle of acrylic paint into my sump..i quickly turn off the return the sump was blue...man this sucks....so i took all the sand rocks and macro algae out and trashed it. Deep clean the sump and all that was in it.did a major wc and ran carbon hope this works. Came in this morning only seen one fatality a mini acro colony it didn't bleach but turn all brown/black so i tossed it ,hope nothing else die they all seem to be doing fine... The bright side is my sump and all the equipment is super clean... So everyone be very careful when kids r around ur tank keep a close eyes on them...i wish this on no one... Wish me luck guys....

Dude that terrible, best of luck and hope everything gets better. Remember that your child is important and there is no need to over react and sell her to the circus. You can just use this against her for the rest of her life.

Wow sorry to hear that Rumen. I put a lock on my cabinet so my four year old couldn't get in it.

Wow that is a bad day, I think I would have be livid. Glad the losses seem minimal though, hopefully it stays that way. Let me know if you need any help though.

When my daughter was 4 she decided to share her chocolate milk and orange juice with the fishies..... it took me weeks to figure out why my skimmer had started working on overtime and my corals were not happy. The fish didn't seem to mind. One morning I caught her pouring the goods into the sump.... she was so proud. "Daddy, I shared!" Just had to hug her and promptly put a lock on the stand.

She's a college senior now... I pull this story out periodically for my own devices. :)

When my oldest was 2 he decided to feed the betta we had in his room with Cetaphil. I was glad it was only a betta but the fish lived for a couple of years after spending a day in a glass while I cleaned out the tank.

Ya when I was a kid and my dad had a fresh tank, I remeber dumping tons of table salt into it. thinking I was helping. Dont know if I actually harmed anything, but when my wife was pregrant I made sure to put locks on the tank stand after remembering myself doing stuff like that

:( the things kids won't do. When my youngest was two and her sister who was 5 (and old enough to know better ), I walked in to find them skating on peanut butter in my living room. Hopefully everything else in your tank survives.

I was guilty of overfeeding to the point that the surface of the tank would be completely covered in flake food. Never understood why my dad didn't like the look of the plastic plants covered in REAL plants (aka algae :p). Those mollies and guppies sure did multiply quickly with all that excess food, haha

We've got a 2 yr old and a 1yr old...both boys and they're already concocting ideas like that.
