What science fair projects have you done with your children for school using your aquarium? Did you have difficulty coming up with a hypothesis statement?

Not for a science fair and not for the children which I don't have, but I did get a pretty good grade for a statistics assignment in college comparing two separate tanks that I had. I did have difficulty coming up a with a hypothesis that wasn't glaringly obvious like, "they'll always be different". I monitored and vigorously recorded every parameter I could from both tanks as well as my maintenance schedule. Out of spite I hypothesized that eventually they would trend toward showing the same values because I treated them equally. They did not and luckily for me that does not mean you fail statistics. Instead, I passed because aquariums, as in life, can not always be predictable.

I've seen some projects about led lights recently at school fairs - you could compare growth rates, polyp sizes, ect of two frags from same mother colony under led vs mh and have a control group under t-5 or something similar.
Also, temp fluctuations versus using controllers, analyzing different salt mixes and their impacts on a tank, coral foods, etc. there's all sorts of questions people are asking on reef central you could try to test out.

My 12 year old daughter (then) did LED growth. Hypothesis is that they would all grow and look the same. We did HQI, Razor, SOL and Radion G1 each in 2x2 sections of a 8 foot tank... expensive, but I wanted to try them anyway and I sold each of them for what I bought them for. She learned a lot about a quantum and had a good time.

My friend Tom's kid did growth of Cali Tort in NSW vs 1.021.
