LI've read benefits to both but wanted y'all's opinionS. Going to be having a refugium either way. Will be growing 1/2 sps 1/2 softies and some Lps.

We had both on our system. But it was a 700gal system, most of which was sticks. Not sure if size matters in this particular decisionmaking process.

No, I didn't mean it that way.

Why not just do both and have the skimmer do a fairly dry skim. Best of both worlds. The skimmer can completely remove dissolved organics (not just process them into nitrate) and the cryptic section can get excess bacreria and what the skimmer misses.

My upcoming big tank will have a large cryptic sump and a skimmer with a display refuge. I am hoping that I wont really need the skimmer much but going to make sure I have one either way just in case.

haha....it all depends on the size of a mans sump.
Going to do both the skimmer, cryptic areas and a refugium if I have the room once I get the sump baffles in place. Thanks guys!
