So...quick question. Who do you think the bigger idiot is, the Petco employee who didn't know the difference between a turbo, cerith, or a nassarius snail, or the moron who paid for empty shells...grrrr

Well cant blame the store clerk really, they only get paid minimum wage, but I think I would be returning them none the less

Are there any petco's in Denver that are worthwhile? There was one in Colorado Springs that was well taken care of and recommended by people on Scmas.

The lady that takes care of the fish at the Highlands Ranch Petco is pretty good. I've talked to her a few times and she's somewhat knowledgeable and really cares about the livestock she's keeping and the condition of the tanks. I'm probably not one to purchase livestock from there in the ways of fish, but snails/crabs/shrimp, maybe.

And (IMHO) the dimwit is the one going into the store and not having the knowledge to know what they are purchasing. You can't expect someone at a pet store working for slightly more than minimum wage to have a great amount of knowhow and experience.

In my understanding, she knew what she was asking for (turbo, nassarius, etc). But when she told the employee what she wanted, the employee didn't know which snails to grab. I think the hobbits would know. At least, that's how I read it.

If you know what you are looking at, then how would you leave the store with the wrong thing?

I'm not trying to instigate here. If I go to purchase turbo snails, I'm gonna look at the bag and make sure I have turbos in there before I pay for them. I didn't mean to come across mean or anything, just being honest about the question from the OP.

I didn't read your tone as angry. So no worries.

I guess I thought she got the right shells, but only realized when she got home that the actual snail was long dead.

Either way, sucky situation. And I agree with your point about minimum wage store employees. It's fun to laugh, but you really can't expect them to know much better.

To clarify, I knew exactly what I was looking for, but the Nassarius were so tiny (that didn't matter) that I couldn't tell if there was live tissue within the shell due to my arms being to short to hold the bag at a proper distance (i forgot my reading glasses at home ) so yep..buyer beware....However, I am a Democrat through and through. I believe that minimum wage should be raised to a viable living amount. With that being said, if you are going to expect to be paid a decent wage, you have a responsibility to do your job correctly. Not knowing the answer wasn't the issue that I found disappointing. Not caring enough to ask questions is what I am angry about. As a Registered Nurse, research has always been at the core of everything I do.
