Do you dip your chaeto?

I am about ready to start a fuge, and am concerned about hitchhikers that make come in via the chaeto. What is the best way to avoid introducing something nasty into my tank?

I freshwater dipped mine for about 3-4 minutes with no ill effects. Sucked killing all of those pods, but it was worth the peace of mind IMHO. I've tried FW dipping dragons breath before, just to see what would happen, and it didn't do as well...the chaeto was pretty resilient though.

Re: Do you dip your chaeto?

Lol...that's exactly what I did instead the last time I got chaeto, and was able to seed my tank with some pods.

Just get chaeto from someone you trust so you don't have to dip it :p
Even then, something could sneak in. DyM just got hit with a nasty hitchhiker, and he's someone I would have trusted.

Well, if you want I can give you a handful of chaeto. I have no corals in my system, and it was running fallow for 6 weeks prior to adding a few anthias that I picked up from Aquatic Art over the weekend. Haven't spotted anything in there other than pods and maybe a bristleworm. I originally got it from Ric (aztecdreams).

perhaps...some people love them, others hate them. I intentionally introduced a few to my fuge to keep the sand oxygenated

That would be awesome!! I don't mind pods, and bristleworms. I was worried about something like nudi's that like to munch on corals, AEFW, etc....

Are you going to reefed this weekend? If not, what part of town are you in? Also, do you plan on adding corals, if so, I'd be happy to frag something for you!

BTW - Ric is another one of those that I put in the "I would trust" category.

Seth - I do not believe Dave knows where they came from. I believe he said he hasn't added anything in quite some time, but after reading his thread, and knowing what happened to me 1.5 years ago, I am very cautious about what goes in my tank.

Yea...figured the corallivores were the main concern.

I won't be going to ReefEd this weekend...but I'll be going next weekend on June 22nd :p I'll gladly bring some then if that works for you. If you happen to be local and want to pick it up before then, I live in NW Denver somewhat close to Arvada. Actually I'm about 2 minutes down the street from Ric, if you know where he lives.

I'll eventually be adding coral to this tank, but don't have any light over it right now, and it'll be a nem tank. No worries on fragging anything for me though, just let me know when you'd like to pick it up.
