Endangered clownfish?

Luckily they should do actual research first on which specific species are in trouble and really need to be added to the list. Hopefully using actual population numbers they can extrapolate from collection data. Even though the article sounds like it was written by a high-schooler, it does bring up valid points about reef decline and our need for more due diligance in ocean conservancy.

Unfortunately it doesn't mention the reef seeding and rebuilding efforts around the globe. As well as the hobby's increase in tank-breeding, and aquarists desire to be more reef friendly by purchasing more aquacultured and maricultured LR and livestock.

This was my first reaction too.
Slim on facts, fat on rhetoric.

It's tough to understand how so many clownfish can be taken from the wild when there are so many people/orginizations that produce captive bred clowns. I'd be interested to see the stats on how many clownfish are imported into the US.

Blogging as journalism... I think they see this as a shortcut, using existing "endangered species laws" to protect a habitat (which is legally much harder to do).
