Filefish compatibility?

#1
I have a Naso, powder blue Tang(s) as well a a Clown fish and Hawkfish as my inhabitants. Can a filefish coexist with these species? Mixed reef with an Aptasia problem. I do use Aptasia X and it works Ok but as you all know... They are pervasive little ****s

I wouldn't put a filefish in with corals. Not even the supposedly reef safe ones. I did that once, and when the aptasia were gone, the little bugger ate my zoas. Almost all of them. In a 180.

+1 to what Cindy said, if you have a reef its not an if its a when will the file fish eat corals. Here is what I suggest as a starting point:

Fairly decent write up here: http://reefcorner.com/reef-database-index/hitchhiker-index/aiptasia-anemone/

Here is how I do it personally -
1. Buy some pickling lime, yes pickling lime aka Calcium Hydroxide
2. mix 50/50 with RO water in a pee cup or other container that is roughly 120ml or so
3. Microwave for 40 secs.
4. Make sure to turn off all of your pumps (including return pump).
5. Use a 5 - 10ml syringe from pharmacy (usually they will give you one for free) and fill syringe with concoction.
5. Inject the dead center mouth of the aiptasia - yes the dead center of the specimen as best as you can.
6. Let sit for 15 mins with pumps still off then turn pumps back on.

This works really well I assure you :p I wouldn't do anymore than say half of a pee cup or say 50-60mls in one day (based on 75 gallon tank - adjust accordingly for size). However 50-60 mls is enough to cover a fairly large infestation so no real need to do more than that.

I battled aiptasia bad for 2 years. Copper band butterfly is the only thing that worked. I tried every remedy including berghia and it was all a waste of money. I could have bought 10 copper bands for what I spent on other "fixes" that didn't work. Berghia were the closest thing but they would die off and the aiptasia would come back. I got two CBB's from Ambrosio aquatics about 2 years ago and have not seen an aiptasia since. Both fish are still alive and healthy. The only draw back is they need mysis twice daily to stay healthy but I have other fish with the same criteria. Trust me... invest your money in these fish. Mine will eat feather dusters and worms. I have Sps, lps, nems and palys. I can't speak for clams though.

I love CBBs. They're gorgeous, and great aptasia eaters, from what I've heard. The problem with CBBs is that for every 10 that are pulled out of the ocean, 1 lives. They are among the hardest fish to keep healthy. At least that's what I've heard from multiple sources. So you could easily buy 10 to get one healthy one that thrives in your tank. Kudos to anyone who manages to do so.

Here's an article that goes into more detail: http://www.tfhmagazine.com/details/...terflyfish-chelmon-rostratus-full-article.htm
