Fish in frag tanks

I know some people have fish in their frag tanks, I'm just curious if people use cycled rocks in their system so ammonia doesn't build up? I'm sure that would depend on how many fish you have in the system. I plan on only having one fish in roughly a 25 gallon system (total water volume), I am running a more than efficient skimmer for this tank as well running either a carbon bag/carbon reactor (any pos/negs on running one or the other?). Should I worry about ammonia build up etc?

I think most fish in fresh tanks are plumbed into a bigger system. You could try a big bio pure block or a couple plates is a ton of surface area. Just remember to rinse well before first use.

I would probably just use filter floss in a mess bag - get two bags and rotate them with fresh material.every few weeks.

However, depending on the overall goal for the frag tank, I would consider going fishless to encourage a tank that will be free of fish based parasites (ich, velvet, etc.). I would pay a premium for corals that were isolated from fish and save me the time of doing the same...

You have a great point. I was just thinking of a six line so they would eat the parasites from Zoas mainly.
