Gauging interest in LED write up/comparison

#1
I was thinking tonight that I have now had my led's almost 6 months. I own a max spect g160 an aquaillumination sol blue, a led wholesalers 54 watt led reef light and an evolution lighting 60 watt UFO. I was wondering if there are people in here that would be interested in reading a write up on my findings with not only switching from halides to led but the comparison on the different units that I have.

Yes, T-5's have a short in them, would love to know how the led's have compared & what the replacement ratio is. I have a 140, 48"x24"x29"d.

I'd be interested.....I just lost a boatload of corals when I switched from MH to AI LED's.
Kinda depressing....my spongodes and tyree true undata are almost completely gone. All my monti caps are fried. My mille is extremely unhappy.
And my chalices are not looking good.

Zooid that is crazy news. You have any idea why you had a loss in your corals? Do you think it was all due to your lights?

Yep....I think I started them out too bright (45%) and it burned the hell out of them.
I guess I should have splurged and bought a par meter. Oh well, live and learn.

I wonder what happened. I switched from 3 400w MH 12K Reeflux bulbs to the Evolution LED units Reefkoi sells and never had an issue. I went from 7 hours a day on the MH to 11 hours a day on the LED. I dropped the LEDs to 5 1/2" off the water vs the 13 from the MH and the only issue I have is I can't get my Pokerstar Monti to color up blue. All my SPS are colorful, more colorful than they ever have been! They grow like crazy. My chalices and Acans can now be out in the light instead of shaded. I push about 90 PAR at the sand bed, 30" down.

As part of my write up I will talk about AI's and that they have been by far the worst of the 4 units in terms of growth and they had many of my corals near death for a very long time.

This will be interesting. No offense but I sense user error. I run AI's exclusively and have been doing so for months now. I have great growth. I have also never bleached a coral with these lights not have I browned any corals. How did these lights kill your coral?

They didn't kill any corals for me. But my corals have been under them for 6 months now and aren't happy. I'll put all of my methods and procedures in the write up including areas that there could be error in my "study". I will say this though my max spect unit seems to be superior interms of how well coral does under it.

Anyways write up is conning in the next couple of days. And to sort of clear things up, I'm not unhappy with any of my led. The AI is a beautiful unit and things are starting to grow again. I have just had some surprising realizations.

I have heard of a few folks now that have fried their coral with the AIs under estimating their output, but from what I've heard once their dialed in they are pretty figgen sweet. Dont listen to me though I dont even have any coral. ;)

Yep. I am a firm believer in always researching anything you ever buy, from TV's to couches to aquarium stuff. This way you know what to expect. I spent a good couple months researching LED's and the various manufacturers before pulling the trigger. Anything you could ever want to know about AI fixtures can be found here:

You are exactly right though Kalgra, the biggest issue with AI's is people underestimating them and frying their corals. The only real issue I have with AI's (and more of a LED downfall in general) is the narrow color spectrum they have, mainly effecting red corals more than anything, they appear to be washed out IMO. All in all though there is no way I would go back to T5's or MH.
