We occasionally have power outages here in colorado, harbor freight currently has some nice specials going on generators;
800-900 watts- 99.99 (chicago elec)
3200-4000 watts-$289.99 (predator)
5500-6500 watts- $469.99 (predator)
I know chicago isnt the best, and having never tried it, I would assume the same about predator but these are some really cheap generators, and the might save your tanks live, (or yours).

I bought the $99 one from harbor freight when my street had a 36 hour outage due to some duche crashing his car into a power pole this last summer. It worked well enough. The outputs pretty dirty though so I definitely would not run it on anything like a vortech or other expensive piece of equipment.

I had no power for 2 days at my place last winter so at least have a plan. I found I could run Korelias a long time on a deep cycle battery with an inverter, heating became my major problem.

What would be the best bet to heat a tank during power outage? Kinda thought about heat packs in a ziplock but not sure. Just in case.

I made do with taking out 5 gallon buckets and heating them by the fireplace till I was able to borrow a generator. I have one just couldnt get it running to side note make sure you keep your generator in good repair.

Last winter, after having a lot of power outages, I bought a Briggs 10Kw (12Kw surge) generator for the whole house. It is sized to power my AC and everything else (how I sold the idea to the wifey). Also had an electrician install a seperate electrical pannel so I can hook it up, switch it over, and everying ((including everything on the reef)) has good clean power. Funny thing is I've used it once only since purchased. Peace of mind I guess. I've heard good and bad about the inexpensive generators. At the end of the day, if they start and provide power when you need it. You're golden. Just be sure to fire it up and test it from time to time, change out the gas every year. Good luck.

Not bad. Good looking out Aaron. I might got pick up the $99 one to power a pump and heater.
This is what I did. It will run a heater and powerhead probably more for about 6-8 hours on a full tank (1gal).
