At the last club meeting, Chad (CRW Reef) gave me a sweet Pink & Gold Paly DBTC. Got em' home, quick dip, and this looks like a good spot. On the sand bed just in case, I didn't ask what light they came from, but have definitely been more cautious since switching to led. A couple days go by, and everything is looking good, the frag had opened right up, even after dipping, and looking happy happy. Couple more days go by, and, HEY!!! Where is that Pink & Gold frag? I looked all over, and nothing. Maybe I was sleep fragging, and checked the other tanks..... Nothing. Shut down all the pumps, get the ladder, and start looking behind the rock work.... Nothing. Get the flashlight and start checking every nook and crack I can find, including the entrance to the, what must be 5 room, jaw fish cave.... Nothing. OK, I've had the rare zoa, and paly not wanting to open, and I won't generally buy single polyp frags, for fear of melting if I put them in the wrong spot, but not even the plug to be found.. Started thinking that I'm going to have announce that I broke the chain pretty soon. As a kind of warning (I'm almost sure the fish don't even care) I only have violet led's on for the last 10 minutes of sundown. Its not my favorite color, but man you can really get some color pop. Anyway, last night I'm looking over the tank under the violet lights, and pop..... what the... O' no you di'int.. O' yes she did. A single polyp, stretching what turned out to be about 1 1/2 inches, trying to get light from the entrance of Pearl's (yellow head jaw fish) under sand Mansion!!! I guess Pearl liked the frag so much, she decided to take some new art for the crib.
Not on my DBTC!!
After some careful movement, and a quick chat with Pearl, the frag is now on the other side of the tank, and happy to report all polyps are open today, and looking great..
