So I just cleaned out my old canister filter and I added new substrate while I'm cleaning the old stuff out(hadn't used in a long time). I set up the filter to my main tank that has been running for around 6 months or so. How long should it take for the canister filter to be colonized by the beneficial bacteria? I am attempting to have the filter become colonized and then move it over to my 10 gallon frag/nano tank.
