So i have had some red cyno issues since moving about a month and a half ago. I have read that wet skimming can help with this algae issue. I am skimming but im not really sure if im skimming wet or dry? I get some nasty green slime in my cup but i also get some nasty cohesive stuff on the lid and top of the neck of my skimmer. Here is a pick:puke:

So im a bit confused. Am i skimming wet or dry? Can you tell from the pic?

nice. ill follow your thread
Clean the neck and cup and post of picture of the bubble column about an hr after cleaning. I want to see we're the bubble column is starting. How old is the pump on the skimmer does it need a cleaning?

From your pic, you're dry skimming. If the skimmate is dark, as it looks in the pic, it's dry. Wet looks like ice tea. Skimmers are time tested - don't give up so quickly and move to the newest thing. Not saying the algae scruber is bad, just skimmer is an effective way to remove DOC's.

Cyano could be bad bulbs, lack of flow, and too much nutrients usually from feeding too much? It may not be related with the skimming.

I'm not a big believer in the difference between wet and dry skimming. I just look at your first pic and your last pic. I would say that your skimmer is removing a lot of crap, and that is a good thing.

I had cyano issues after moving as well. I increased flow a bit, cut an hour of the light schedule and fed the fish a bit less and within a few days the red slime was gone and has not come back.
