Since the beginning, I have been playing with the gate valve on my Super Reef Octopus 1000SSS. Judging from other comments and research, this unit can be finicky.

I think I found a setting that I like. What do you guys think of this skimmate color- bubble size etc? This skimmate is result of 3 days- and no adjustments.

Looks about the same as mine, maybe a tad lighter, same skimmer. I probably get this amount in a day, on my 110 gallon setup. How much water is yours sitting in?

This is maybe 1.5 days worth:

I can dump mine, and get a better 1 day test if needed...

Well I am running it deeper that others that have this unit- check out the picture: 9 inches.
Off topic but what does the egg crate under the skimmer do?

it raises the height cause it is recommened that the skimmer sits on only 6 inches of water so people make eggcrate stands for them

Hmm I run a smaller reef octopus and mine comes out as greenish black sludge

Also I find that the pump with the small rubber feet, and the bottom cylinder of acrylic are very stable while sitting on the egg crate.

I'm at 9 1/4" of water. I assume you run an ATO, so your water level is consistent, right?

yup - ATO is 2 chambers over, so level is consistent. So we both are running in deep water and getting good results. And I think the deep water allows the pump not to work as hard to hold the same volume of water in the skimmer. I imagine it comes down to the gate valve setting and dwell time in the skimmer.
Thanks for the feedback!

What's your total water volume on your system?
