I use my apex now for ATO so that I can customize how it operates and get alerts. Before that I used a JBJ auto top off and was happy with it. That one can be set up for maximum time and a redundant high level backup. Cost is around $100 new.

Honestly, if you can afford to drop a couple hundred bucks, I would look into an apex jr or a reefkeeper lite. That will give you much more bang for your buck since they can control your heaters, lights, chiller/fan, and ATO, plus alert you of problems. By the time you add up the cost of temp controller, ATO, and timers, it ends up costing the same for better performance.

I used a jbj for a long time and think they work well. That being said for $100 your well on your way to a controller which can do ato and much, much more.

I was limited on space so I used a hydor smart level connected to a solenoid which runs straight off my ro/di. Cost was around 100 total.
