Large bubbles on return

Filled my tank last night and not sure if I did the return right. I have the return line running down and into the sump, resting on the bottom. There are lots of big bubbles, not micro bubbles coming out. I have a durso standpipe in already.
Ideas?

Do I need to cut the drain shorter? It's the blue pipe.

Jeremiah a ball valve on the overflow line will help create some back pressure and will minimize the size and amount of air that is allowed to pass through. The bubbles are usually created when the overflow pipe size is a bit bigger than the volume of water that is being sent through and down the overflow - meaning if you were to increase the return flow the bubbles would be less as well.

+1 to using a bubble trap. If you use the bubble trap and no bubbles are returning to the display, then don't worry about it. If the are in the the return to the display, rethink your bubble trap.

The only concern I would have with bubbles is the salt creep on the sides of your stand from water splashes from the bursting bubbles. You have to look closely to see the splashes, but they're there.

Does the display tank ever do a "flushing" type sound? Like a lot of water all goes at once and then the standpipe breaks its siphon and then the overflow fills back up again? If this happens you can cut the flex pipe where the water empties into the sump, I've read that an inch or so is all that you need otherwise pressure builds when the air can't easily escape the return line. You can also adjust your durso standpipe up or down in the overflow area up or down to fine tune the splash and possibly the air bubbles created as water enters the overflow? Just a couple of ideas to tinker with.

You may also want to pie a filter bag on the stand pipe that enters your sump. It will help eliminate bubbles and catch debris.

I have this issue on my tank , every like 5-10 minutes it is really loud , series of gurgles, i have adjusted the stand pipe up and down to try to make that stop , i have a very high flow return pipe that i have adjusted down to half of what it can do because i thought my drain just could not keep up with it . So to fix this you cut your drain pipe off an inch before the water in the sump?
