I used to have one. A really powerful one in fact. It doesn't really work. They always come back an in most cases I found that while it seemed to work more often than not it just caused them to spread around the area even worse.
I believe you can zap the aiptasia to the point that it kills it but the angle and the concentration of the beam have to be perfect. Which in most cases is almost impossible because of the glass or some other obstruction thereby just ****ing it off and causing it to spread. Id say you would have much better luck with kalk paste or a couple peppermint shrimp. I know some say Lemmon juice works well also but In never tried it.
Thanks for the reply and the advice. I have heard the same about a kalk paste. I have also heard about the peppermint shrimp and then heard people say they didn't eat theirs, perhaps they weren't aptasia.
If I were you, I would get a couple peppermint and give a good kalk paste to any that you notice. I did that on an infestation of about 10 (that I noticed) and never saw another since.
If you ever want to try the laser method, I have a 3W Blue laser that will boil aptasia on contact. You can hear them popping and boiling (it is quite loud). I have used it for many a pest. Be aware, that you do not want anyone without proper eye protection in the room, as even a reflected beam can instantly cause permanent eye damage, even blindness. These high powered lasers are not toy's and can not be taken lightly.

You need to get the "right" kind of peppermint shrimp. I know they come from a couple different regions. One is good for removal of aiptaisia and the others are not but apparently look the same. i think that where people will sometimes hear that Peppermints don't always work. I have always used them in my smaller tanks were other natural predators were not an option and they have always decimated my aiptasia problem in a few days. The down side is that over time you usually end up with just one no matter how many you drop in. Im not sure if this is due to starvation or them killing each other off. Ive always had to replenish them from time to time. I don't remember the details about which region you need to make sure they come from but there is a thread on it here somewhere.

I've heard that working for others well (I always just use kalk paste cause its even cheaper and I always have kalk on hand), but that does nothing for aptasia that is hidden from view and they will sometimes break loose a tentacle to spread elsewhere if you don't apply it just right. Peppermint shrimp will seek out any that are hidden and eat them before they have a chance to spread.
