Leaking water

Started filling my 65 build tonight w water. Did a water test earlier yesterday and it held fine. Moved the tank and got all the connections done. I decided to fill the overflow first to just check before I filled the tank all the way, idky.
The standpipe in the overflow that brings water up from the refugium looks like the bulkhead leaked a tiny bit down the bottom and along the return tube. Most of the water was contained along the tube itself as I heard it hitting my splash guards in the refuge and immediately pulled the standpipe that goes to the refugium out and it drained within seconds (thank therealchrisbrown!!! If u hadn't shown me that I would have had a lot more water leaking).
I think it could have come from when I put the new hose onto the return bulkhead and may have twisted it loose...thoughts?

Try some Silicon around the threads of the connections, let sit for the specified dry time and then retest

Thanks! I think it's the rubber seal but going to work on it tomorrow...peace of mind knowing it's something easy and not a cracked tank ;)

Sometimes those rubber seal can become unseated and wont seal right, make sure it is positioned correctly before trying the silicon then

might just be loose. not to sound rude but their should be no reason for silicon on bulkhead threads. The rubber seal should stop any leaking so the treads should never have water on them what so ever. if its leaking, than like synden said ,its prob. the rubber seal or a crack in the bulkhead. i agree with chad. replace the bulkhead. i would double check the tank is crack free where the hole for the bulkhead is

Silicone is a recipe for disaster on anything by glass-to-glass, even if it is not for a little while. Tighten the bulkhead or replace the seal.

Sorry wasnt suggesting silicon on the glass parts but rather on the threads of whatever pvc is screwed into the bulkhead. I would never do silicon on any other part of the bulk head especially around the seal or on the glass.

I am going to go up to great white aquatics today and get new bulkheads as this tank is old and sat for a year or more In a garage before I got it. I'd rather do it right now without water in it vs later when it's much more difficult. Just glad I caught it before I filled it completely. Not sure why the water test earlier didn't catch it but nonetheless, forward progress.
Thanks for all the advise guys!!!!!!

Got bulkheads but found the issue was the drain pipe coming out of the internal overflow. Every few seconds there is an increase in water pressure coming down and a little bit of water leaks out of the hose where it connects. I let it sit this week to check it and it leaked a little, enough I didn't notice until it salt creeped on me. Today checked and lots of creep. Added a hose clamp but can still see water on it when I press a paper towel to it. Only does this when water is running thru it. Here's a shot of the drain where it's leaking. Will let it sit again and see if it continues to b a problem or not.

I don't think you'll get a good seal on this type of tubing, under any circumstance. Get smooth tubing at HD or local fish supply...

Ya I agree that tubing could be very difficult to make a good seal, some good braided tubing would do much better
