I wouldn't run one that big much safer and provides more backups to split it into 2 heaters plus what are you wanting to heat with 1000wts? I only use 800 on my 600 gallon system.

I am running into the same issue with my tank. I can't get it over 74. Thats when halides came in good. Never had a problem heating the tank when using them. I have a 300 and a 250w and cannot get mine up either. I am curious what to use as well.

Thank you that is nice of you. I have like 5 more heaters, but I some how think that having more than 4 might be a fire waiting to happen lol. I sure am glad I have my 125 still going and the 2 clowns in my 300 can live at a little lower temp

Mdrumm had a titanium 1500W pass through heater that he was selling. I'm not sure if he still has it but might be worth checking. Was very nice!

I would recommend insulating everything you can which will help at least both summer and winter

Has anyone ever toyed with the idea of hooking up a small water heater to a tank? That way your using gas instead of electricity to heat the tank? Also, what about a pond heater or horse trough heater? I've seen them both at ace and boomgaars in Brighton.

Horse trough heaters are 1500watts it would def work but for most it would be to large, they also have a built in thermo for 40°F . A small hot water heater may work but how would you get it to continuesly cycle. Larger tanks use boilers that the water passes through 1/2 copper pipes that are over the boiler flame. I have seen the boiler method used on a 8k TWV system but never seen anything smaller.

Mike, I'm with you brother. I'm running 1500 watts on 5 heaters right now. They ran constantly to keep 78 deg over the past few months. I was thinking about going with a 1000w myself, but didn't want to do that unless I had a controller I trusted. I was worried if a "big" one got stuck on, I would overheat the tanks. So I went with a 500w titanium as my largest. Still could use a controller, but just my .02

Ya i am with you, but if a 1000 watt heater gets suck on and you need 1300-1500 watts will it realy do any harm? Due to the fact that I have 1300 watts on my tank now and they NEVER shut off i dont think a it makes a differance if a 1000 watt heater gets stuck. It is not enough to heat the tank anyway. Right?

Yeah, that would be the theory. ;) I know over the past week, I refused to turn on my A/C yet so the inside of my house got into the high 70's. I noticed the heaters weren't working full time any longer. So I think that theory would work during the winter but I'm not so sure in the summer?? Guess it depends on what temp you keep your house during the summer. My basement will stay cool during the summer but definitely not as cool as it does during the winter. Of course, none of this would matter if I had a controller. ;)
