Low Alk and pH

My tank has been up almost four months now, and things are overall looking great. I have great coral growth, my fish seem happy and healthy etc. However, lately (for at least the past month) my alk and pH have been low. pH has been swinging from about 7.6-8.0 daily, hitting its maximum right when the lights go off at night. My alk has been at around 7 dKh. I also tested calcium and it has also dropped, but since it was high to start with I'm not too worried about it (started at about 520 ppm and has dropped to 400). Alk and Ca tests were done with the API test kits, pH is measured with a ReefKeeper Lite probe that was calibrated in pH 7 and 10 solutions. I've been trying to bring up the values with water changes, but I'm guessing my regular 5% weekly isn't enough since it keeps dropping. I got some of the Thrive Aquatics dosing when they were giving it away, so I'm going to start dosing that to see if I can't get my values up.

My question is: is there anything else that I can be doing to keep my values higher? I have a mixed reef and have seen growth on SPS, LPS and softies recently even though my chemistry isn't where it's supposed to be. Thanks for your help!

I know in the winter my alk and ph are lower. From what I have read there is my o2 in your house in the winter. You keep your windows shut in the winter more then the summer

Look into 2 part solutions. Bulk reef supply has good prices and good instructions. Your corals are using more than the water changes are able to provide for. Your o2 levels are probably also lower because of closed windows as mentioned already.

ive been noticing this too. My alk has been steady in all my tanks for like 6months and just recently ive been seeing a decline. How should one oxygenate more? Like add an airstone or something? More surface agitation?

My Ph is up to 8.2 from 7.9 after apx two weeks if kalkwasser dosing.

It will raise the Ca, KH, and pH, works especially well in top off systems, this way you control the dosing rate via evaporation, and you dont raise the pH too quickly, (saturated lime water has a pH of around 12)

There is some debate about that, I dump a bunch of unsettled in my system all the time.
Most people mix 1 tsp/g and let it settle out, then only use the clear saturated water from the center, leaving a residue on the bottom, and a thin surface scum (for lack of a better term). or use a kalk stirrer.
I mix at 1/2 that ratio, and top off manually with 1-2 gallons at any given time. (in a 100 g system)

Was having the same low params issues been using kalk fir two weeks and every thing has stabilized. My setup us extremely ghetto at the moment as well. I have an ato set up but no time to install, so I manually top off 2g a night using a siphon with air hose and a valve at the end.
About 8 pm I top 1g by dumping in rodi to my sump. At that time I shake my 2g container that is kalk and rodi. Right before bed around 1 or 2am I turn on my kalk drip it empties 1.5g over night. If I had more time to play with it id time the drip to run all day so water level never variates, but if I had that time my ato would be installed lol

Quick follow-up question about dosing kalkwasser: I know that it is used to maintain levels of calc and alk, rather than raise them (right?), but does that mean that I should dose up to recommended levels and then start adding lime to my ATO, or would it be better to start adding kalkwasser while raising levels then maintaining once I get there?

Most decent salt mixes have all u need in them for calc alk mag etc, unless ur tank consumes a ton like sps dominate tanks deplete faster. If ur not fully loaded with sps ur salt mix maintained with kalk should keep u decent
