I did not realize when I emailed Elite Reef today that it was a post that went out on MASC main page. For that I do apologize. I spent 12-14 hours yesterday, and close to $200 dollars trying to save my tank. That said, the derisive emails I received back, mostly from other MASC folks were not necessary. None of the rude postings knew the tank I bought, nor any of the circumstances with it. I did research, google the brown clear water concern and all responses only talked about diatoms. As it turns out, tetracycline will kill a reef aquarium fast! Not one post on google addressed it. I was at CSU for the reference department for many years so I'm trained to use search terms and look at many results. Plus plain common sense. Seems odd that people would wade into my post (again, I didn't catch it was a general broadcast message) over a circumstance they would have had no first hand knowledge. The LFS that sold me the antibiotic has worked with me very well. The new employee, a very nice person by the way, didn't know, he does now. The used tank I bought had/has multiple problems. We'll get it resolved, but insults left and right, from those that are not in the loop beg the question. I do agree Elite Reef has a wonderful store, this particular tank issue is an exception. Again, I didn't realize my email was going out to the MASC main page, I take responsiblility for not catching that. After spending 12-14 hours yesterday; wake up check the tank, the livestock were dying or dead again, it broke my heart. My daughter cried hard yesterday. I almost did this morning. I worked on the tank again today for 11 hours. The mom

Why don't we just let this matter die down? There's no need to continue on and on, thus being said everybody said what they needed/wanted to say. It's done and over with. Let's just try to have a greet local community where we can all get along and leave all the junk in reef central.

You nuked that tank over and over, stop pointing fingers and take responsibility, then get over it and come get some replacements, its not the end of the world, its a learning experience.

If posts that "incite anger" are to be taken down, then why is this one from wicked demon up?

The tank was "nuked" once. A LFS told me it was safe to use in the tank. I used too much coral dip, in a bucket, rinsed and put back in the tank. No livestock died, most of the coral came back. All my fish in the first tank are dead today, so I hope there might be one MASC member out there that can realize how devastated we are right now.

Because;
1- We are not a Nazi censorship site
2- I say it like it is
3- I feel for you, I really do, that is why you dont have any infractions yet.

BTW, where are the posts where you came on this forum to ask ANY questions prior to using such a drastic measure? anybody here could have told you that was a bad idea.

I understand your devastation.
We have a 200g tank in which ALL of my SPS and most of my LPS has been obliterated.
It was all caused by changing the lighting. Am I blaming AquaIllumination? No. I blame myself.
I should have been more diligent in my research of the AI light fixtures.

When we have failures, all we can do is try harder the next time. There are so many people on this board
that can give you frags to replenish your coral stock. There are some of us that have raised fish that don't
cost an arm and a leg.

When this site was first created, I saw about one post per month. The traffic started picking up after RC
decided to become a free speech quashing site. Everyone is not the same so there will always be posts that
are unappreciated. The solution to that problem is to ignore those posts and not to remove their right to
speek freely.

I wish you luck in rebuilding your system. And please don't use chemicals to get rid of an unsightly problem without
asking in the forums. I've learned that if you overreact to a problem, sometimes it becomes a bigger problem.

Oh, and another thing. NEVER, EVER listen to one opinion on any subject. Get many different viewpoints and make
an informed decision on which path you wish to take.

There will always be 1 or 2 posts that seem rude or that come off wrong. The posts from last night were removed because it became a big insult fest. We understood being free and not like RC but we definitely draw the line when a thread is only used to insult people and to blame others.

Just remember to ask questions first that way you can hear what other people have had and what they used to cure it. I am also not a fan of the quick fix chemicals out there cause often they are doing more harm than good. And like Gale said there are plenty of people on here who are willing to help ya get it back up to where it was. Ya have to kinda have a thick skin when dealing with people on the internet there are a lot of people out there who like to run their mouth from behind a computer and that's all it is. But there are a lot of good people on this site who will point ya in the right direction. Just my .02

So where do we draw the line on harassing PM's telling people to f off and constantly blaming a sponsor who we all know has done more than any other LFS would to resolve the issue?

You can report them and the board will have to take up the issue, but I, nor the rest of the board can see ANY pm's, contrary to what some people may think lol.

I missed whatever happened and I do feel sorry for your loss. I lost 2 anthias and a yasha goby to a rogue bullseye pistol shrimp that I can't catch. It's been hard to swallow as I love my fish more than anything in my tank. Some I've had for years now that I moved cross country with me. It's frustrating but like Wicked said you move on.

I'm going to be contoversial here but I would never take the advice from anybody who works at a LFS. Yes there are some knowledgeable people but there are also a lot of people who know far less than I do but think they're the **** because they work at an LFS.

Before I do anything to my tank I research on Reefcentral. I know people here diss RC but it's still the best online site to find information and help along with places like Wet Web Media. If I'm still not comfortable I google the other online websites. The more knowledge the better.

Now is a good time to start over and do it right. Get yourself a cheapy digital camera, take pictures ask questions. There are a lot of good people here to help too.

I personally never saw the original post and from what I see in this post someone made a mistake. If ya have ever dealt in retail ya know everyone will not always be happy and if ya think ya can it won't ever happen unfortunately. If someone posts something can you honestly tell me you can tell what mood im in? Yes we are all responsible for our tanks and what we do is our fault wether we got good or bad info. But if you or anyone else sent someone a pm for a issue that had nothing to do with you and ya got a f off in the process then I see it as kinda your fault. There have been a lot of people who have had issues with sponsors on masc but I personally have never let it sway me one way or the other.

And the board here does everything they can and its not the pleasure cruise of being a board member that alot of people think it is. Believe me on this one its alot of work and alot of reading . And its not easy to tell what is offending to one person but not to another.

A little off topic... But not really... I am a little new here in respect to others that have been here from the start. And really only know a few of the board members off the top of my head. I am sure there is list somewhere, but could that list be re-posted? I only ask so that the new people know who to talk to, if they do need to. Might help a little in a way in the future.

If you go to the forum page, on the bottom of all the listed forums there is a link that says something like "view site leaders." I'm not sure, with all the board changes, when that was updated last but it should give a list of us all. It will change in a couple of months as the new board is elected!

So, I really haven't been paying much attention lately. I never even look at the home page, until today...

1st, Why does it say I posted the blog about objectification of the reef on the home page. That needs to be fixed since I had nothing to do with the post on the home page.

2nd and on this subject, Tetracycline is not safe for invertebrates and says so on the box. The first lesson that is learned from this, this is a hobby, it is your responsibility to do your own research and educate yourself. If you buy a Remote Control Helicopter and slam it into the ground. Is it the pilots fault, or the rc stores fault? The second lesson is Don't overreact. Take your time and find the correct solution to the problem, or typically it ends up worse. Also, accept that you made all the choices that have led to this end result. Perhaps those choices were made upon receiving poor advise, but they are your choices none the less. Accept the responsibility and learn from the mistakes.

3rd(not directed at Elite specifically) LFS can't afford to pay people that actually know what they are talking about. Most of them will sell a tang to someone with a ten gallon.
