I just picked up a brand new 225g Acrylic tank I'm going to use for fish only!! It's a six foot rectangular tank with an island overflow. I'm super stoked but have some issues with the setup I need to get taken care of pronto!

1) Does anyone have experience dealing with "custom" acrylic builds?? At minimum someone who has drilled 1/2" acrylic successfully. The island overflow is in place, but the bottom of the tank needs to be drilled. I'm considering the beananimal setup. I'd love some help or referrals in this direction!!

2) Does anyone have experience or can point me in the right direction for custom carpentry? I need some trim made to match the stand, on a budget!! And possibly a full canopy if the price is right. I've beyond stretched my budget on all this and hope to button everything up soon if possible. Thanks in advance for any help or referrals to those who can!

both are easy, drilling is easy, and for the hood, the hardest part is matching the stain to the existing stand but crown work is easy

Thanks for the input Chris! If your dad does great work, there's still a possibility I might hit you up if he'd be interested. I'm gonna check out a couple local options first though. ALL my family live in the Springs, so it's not a big deal on the distance or heading down that way. The clams and corals are doing great btw!!

I've definitely heard acrylic is MUCH easier than glass. I still don't want to risk a brand new 225 in my rookie hands! ;) Yeah, matching the stain is the only catch to me. Which is why I figured I'd hit up the "pros" or people that are awesome at it on the amateur side. I have no carpentry skills whatsoever. I'm assuming a stain would work, though the stand I believe is natural oak or something with no stain. I'll throw up a couple pic in a minute so you all know what the heck I'm talking about!

just sand down the whole stand, and then put the crown on it, then re-stain the whole thing

LOL...I wish it was that easy. Sanding down a stand this size and re-staining would suck absolutely suck. On top of that, this stand was custom made and is brand new. Sealant coats on and everything. Other than the trim/molding issue, the stand is awesome.

Checked out your thread...that was an awesome job you all did. The tank looks amazing as well!!

If the stand is new ,why don't you ask what wood and stain they used so you have could match it at the store.
Simply because I didn't buy it from the person who built it. However, the seller is trying to track down that info for me. Not expecting any solid answers though unfortunately.
