Print isn't dead yet! MASC and the rest of the internet is an incredible resource for knowledge, but I feel strongly that there is still a place for books on this incredible hobby of ours. A dozen years ago when I was first into reef keeping I hardly gave a thought to using the internet for aquarium advice and information, instead I read every book I could get my hands on and subscribed to a couple magazines. Since getting back into the reef scene I've read countless forum posts and online articles, but I have still found some great new books. I thought I would share a few favorites from my collection and see what everyone else recommends.

The Reef Aquarium: Science, Art, and Technology
J Charles Delbeek and Julian Sprung

  • Pretty much the marine aquarium Bible. Seriously, this book has it all. Tons of information on proven methods and practical advice. Even expert aquarists will find something new to learn here.

Book of Coral Propagation: Reef Gardening for Aquarists (volume 1 edition 2)
Anthony Calfo

  • This book seems to be geared more towards coral farmers, but I found it to be very helpful and practical for the average reef keeper. Excellent reference as you start fragging your corals. Lots of photos too.

Post up if you have a recommendation for a good book or magazine! :nerd:

One I read when I first was thinking of making the switch to salt was The conscientious marine aquarist, by Robert Frenner, which I found very informative and packed with lots of good info on just about everything. Doesnt cover corals very much but goes over alot of equipment, husbandry, livestock selection, water chemistry ect...

One of my favorites to date is Aquarium Corals by Eric Borneman.

It is an incredibly in-depth book on everything coral related. It's primarily geared toward classification and identification but extensively covers husbandry, care, disease, and propagation.

I highly recommend it!

Upon reviewing the image you attached, SkyShark, I see that you already have Aquarium Corals.

So another book I'd recommend is Giant Clam by Daniel Knop. It's older but still incredibly relevant and packed with information about the identification and care of Tridacnid Clams.

I'll have to check that one out. I have Giant Clams in the Sea and Aquarium by James Fatherree, but I haven't finished reading through it yet.
