Ive been holding off on posting this as Im not entirley sure what Im going to do, but many of you that know me personally already know so I thought Id share with the club.

I experienced a tank crash over Valentines Day weekend. Power went out while we were out of town, battery back up didnt kick on as far as i know. When we returned home I enterd my house to the most foul smell I have ever encountered. Tank had dropped to 65 degrees.

I lost just about everything, all SPS, majority of my zoas, surprisingly enough my LPS faired the storm pretty good, I only lost 2 torches. As far as fish go I lost my flame angel, coral beauty, mated pair of dragonettes (both eating frozen), valentini puffer, my little harem of clown gobies (4 in all) and my entire clean up crew (including 2 cleaner shrimp) with the exception of the very first hermit I ever bought, he made it too!!

Im basically left with a pair of clowns and 2 wrasses, a nem, a handful of LPS and a few zoas that made it.

After alot spent on salt for water changes the tank has leveled back out and everything that made it starting to look good again, now i have to decide if I want to rebuild or if I want to break down. Ive been mulling this over since this happened and in all honesty Im not sure which way to go. I really dont have the money to re-stock the tank (no longer working in a fish shop really sucks right now) and everytime I look at it in its current state I become depressed. Those of you who have experienced this know exactly what Im talking about. Theres nothing like seeing the little eco system youve worked so hard to establish go right down the drain.

My thought right now is to transfer whats left into the 29 gallon bio cube once its ready and break down and sell the 75 set up. I just cannot see myself being able to re-stock it anytime soon and looking at it empty is simply killing me.

MOST EXPENSIVE VALENTINES DAY EVER!!!!!

Well of course I dont want it to sit empty, Im just scared to put anything in it. The amount of SPS I lost is what really gets me. Alot of stuff I got from Mike and Gonzo that was growing great, a few colonies gonners.

We all know how rough it can be to get a tank dialed in for SPS, its what I struggled with on the 180 and a big reason why I down sized, I think this is what ****es me off the most!!

So you just don't want to deal with restocking coral? That's crazyness man. Coral come and go and i've learned this the hard way numerous time, but your love for the hobby will always be there. You are part of a very caring and generous group and we have shown time and time again that we can pull together and pull people out of the abyss. Let your tank stabilize and I will can donate some nice zoa frags and I'm sure there are many here who would do the same.

Don't let this stumbeling block dictate your integrity, know that you are not alone. I am sorry for your losses but don't be shy, PM me when you're ready.

Sorry to hear :(

I agree...no reason to bow out now. In spite of the recent loss, you still have a tank running and know that system well enough to get it dialed in again. Let things settle and just start piecing the livestock it back together.

Besides...with your streak on raffles...you're bound to win some fish/coral/gift cards this weekend.

I have went through a major crash in my 240 where I lost acro colonies the size of a basketball and I was ready to toss in the towel. It was devastating to see everything that took me years to grow and stabilize. It was a combination of masc members , sponsors and my wife that convinced me to stay. Even as recent as a few months ago when it seemed like very week I had a new piece of equipment breaking I wanted to get out. Again masc members stepped up and showed me what a great group this is. If you decide to stay I would gladly pass this generosity on to you with free frags from my tank when you're ready

Josh, my tank will be coming down in the next few months, as we get ready to move. I'm pretty sure that by that time, you'll be squared away and ready for coral again in your 75. I'm pretty sure you know by now that I'll send you home with a bucketful of coral. That is, IF you have room for them, with all the corals you'll get from other members. Then you'll have the joy of watching your tank regrow into a beautiful work of art.

I'm going to Disney world in April and I'm so paranoid I've thought of breaking down the 120 many times and maybe rebuilding months later or just sticking with my little cube just to avoid the worry i am going to have of a crash. But having broken down so many times before, i remember what a pita it is to restart and how much time i spent regretting having downsized. And then i reconsider. Your system is restabilizing, some things made it through and i will bet they are stronger for it especially the fish that survived. You're probably in the post traumatic stress phase of a crash lol. Let it settle. Take advantage of all the payback people want to give you for your past good deeds in this club. I don't have much sps but i have interesting zoas i could frag for you. You're not going to get rid of this addiction lol.

Thanks guys! Its nice to know I have the support of the club!! Heres what I can say. I will keep the tank running and work on the process of restock. At least I can go a different direction fish wise!!! The tank seems to have leveled out and is back to normal perameter wise. Right now Im doing a constant water change, I have a drip of fresh saltwater going into the tank and an overflow in the sump draining out, this seems to have helped immensly. I will stop this Friday, and let the regular filtration take back over by itself and see what happens.

Anyone that wants to donate any frags to my restock cause is much appreciated, and frags donated will be treated as DBTC and returned to the club as such. Im really only concerned with the SPS and zoas, those that know me know i was big on my zoas, but I lost ALL my SPS, I still have a decent amount of zoas, maybe half of what I did have. I want to wait about 4 weeks to see how the tank levels out before adding ANYTHING to it, so frag em up!! LOL

You guys will be lucky this time around for ReefStock, Adam and I will not be there, I work Saturday (tried and tried to get it off, no luck) and little league baseball tryouts are Sunday morning and we draft our teams Sunday afternoon.
