Thank you! It's always worth it. I just hate that no matter how careful you are, something will end up getting screwed up.

It's like anything else - if you just realize ahead of time that it's gonna happen, it isn't so painful when it does. Anytime I'm moving or moving a tank, I just assume at the beginning that the whole thing is going to be a complete failure. That way, when most everything goes ok, I'm happy.

2 weeks later... Everything's doing pretty good, haven't lost anything. The tank has been fallow now since April due to an ich outbreak that unfortunately killed my mated clowns. Moving forward I am getting ready to set up a qt to bring some fish home.

Looks really good. If you've been fallow since April, I would wait the full year before putting any fish back in. Ich is supposed to be able to survive without a host fish for a year.

Tank is looking really good though.

Sent from space.

Wow a year? I've heard everything from 6 weeks to 6 months, and a year. Is there any way to test for the parasite to know for sure?

I'm not sure it's worth trying to keep a tank free of ich. It's just entirely too common, and could be added into your tank with every new fish, coral, brine shrimp treat, etc. If your fish are healthy and happy, you should be fine. If they're stressed out and unhealthy (not eating, bad water quality, etc) that's when ich becomes a problem. I can't imagine going all winter long without fish in the tank.
