Mp40 on 75 gallon

I have a 75 gallon tank and am wondering if 2 mp40wes is to much for it. I am running them at 25% i think it mostly lps coral. I had them running at about 50 and everything seemed to open up but not fully cause of the flow i am guessing. Am contomplating trading them for mp10wes. Thoughts ?

thats wayyyy too much flow in a 75g. 2 mp-40s will shred most lps in a tank that size.

+1 2 of those on there is a crazy amount for lps. LPS generally prefer medium to lower flow amounts. I know Chad runs one on his 75g and has crazy flow, but 2 I would think would be overkill and likely near tidal surf kind of flow which many corals would have a very difficult time with.

I personally would keep both of the mp40s if you are ok with the visual impedance the have. Even if you have to run them on a lower percentage, I believe the larger/wider streamed volume of water they turn/move vs the MP10 even on slower modes is far superior. I actually run both a MP40 and a MP10 both on 80-100% (pending my mood of the day lol) and virtually everything is happy with the flow. I even at one point had 2 mp40s running at 80% (dry side got loud on 1 so had to come off) and was happy then too! So if you plan to keep anything else in the tank like sps or zoas....they will love the current

Now I would agree, if you have a bunch of torches, hammers, lobos, duncans, leathers, plates and such; you prob wont need to ever run above 40-50% and they might not all respond that well to that much current for a while.

I turned them down a bit cause my torches and hammers where not so happy but everything else seemed okay with it and everything u mentioned isnthe type of coral i keep mostly soft stuff

Ecotech has a great calculator on their website where you can input the size of your tank and play with different pump combinations. It might be good to look at.
