Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

So as some of you know I have struggled with keeping my tank clean of coraline algae. It grows on every side of my tank and blocks the view. Also many know I am quite lazy and did everything possible to remove/automate maintenance to my tank. Usually when it gets really bad I will take a old credit card and scrape off the coraline. This is a lot of work though and takes hours to do.

With working on the forums the last few days it has motivated me to clean up the tank and get it back into good shape. I've heard about using the Magic Eraser before (regular one, not the bath and kitchen one as they have chemicals). Anyone have first hand experience with it? People make it sound like it makes cleaning coraline no harder then regular scrubbing of algae off the acrylic. I am very skeptical of that.

I guess its only $5 so really not all that expensive to go and buy one and try it out though.

I would defiantly read up on the chemicals used in it.

No chemicals in a Mr. clean eraser. You can use it safely inside your tank to clean it but I don't think would do a very good job on Cora line algae unless it was very small.

Credit card and occasional razor blade work fine for me, even on the heavy buildup...

I use a magic eraser from time to time on my glass. Works great for filmy algae but it doesnt remove hard coraline deposits. It will help clean them a bit but you still have to take a scrapper to get the hard stuff off.

thats what I do. but there is 24 sq ft of acrylic to clean :(

I did go buy a pack. Like you guys said doesnt really work on the coraline unless you are going to scrub for hours. I went in with the old credit card and got about 1/4 of the tank clean. will do some more tomorrow.

Ya I unfortunately I think there is no quick fix to that one, just have to scrape through it

Magic eraser is like 3000 grit wet sand paper.. It will leave a haze of fine scratches on acrylic...

It's actually more like a polisher and works to remove some of the fine scratches. It's not doing much for the coraline but it does work really well for regular cleaning.

There are ZERO "magic erasers" in the ocean, and though our tanks aren't anywhere near there, use a razor blade man. Not rocket science.

More then half of the stuff we use doesn't exist in the ocean.

Trying to find easier ways to do things, that's what its all about for me. Reason why 90% of my tank is automated. If everyone kept to what we knew and did we would still be running undergravel filters and strugeling to grow xenia.
