Mushroom ate acan

Watch out for this. My mushroom extended up and latched on to my acan. Did some decent damage. Never though that would happen. Before and after pics below.

That will happen. Mushrooms are the bullies of the coral world. I have even seen some of my ricordias go toe-to-toe with an anemone and the battle was pretty even.

I had my lavender hairy mushroom melt half my scoly once.

So was it the ricordea that attacked the acan? Or a different mushroom we are not seeing? I ask because I'm getting ready to place an acan... fairly close to a ric.

Which one attacked first is up for debate, but if a battle ensues, the mushroom usually wins. I personally only place large zoa colonies in close proximity to mushrooms.

Should have been more clear and maybe silly question, but are you lumping ricodea in with mushrooms? I'm specifically wanting to know if the ricordea did that or was it some other type of mushroom. I thought ricordea were not aggressive like other mushrooms.

Ricordias are just as bad as trumpets or hairy mushrooms, they just grow slower and travel less, which makes them less likely to start a battle. If a ricordia feels like it's space is threatened, it will battle and more than likely win.

Good to know. Will space accordingly. Thanks!

Yes the purple one in the first picture is the culprit. I have since separated the two. The acan is fairly new to the tank. I'm convinced once the mushroom learned it was there it went on the offensive. The acan is still working on daytime polyp extension (if I used the correct descriptor there). I'm referring to it's "tentacles." The mushroom reached further than I have ever seen it reach. I actually came home mid-chew and separated them. Would have been way worse I assume.
