A tank I take care of has one of these on it and to tell you the truth I'm not that impressed, the main problem I have had with it is that my friends tank has no sump so the osomolator had to be installed in the tank and that causes problems cause the optical sensor can not be raised high enough so the water level is a little below the trim not a big deal and would not be and issue if used in a sump but the other problem has been the pump that it comes with its really small and at first was having problems when it would kick on it seemed to have problems pushing the water through the hose, I cut the hose to make it smaller and that seemed to work. Also when the bucket with top off water gets to low the pump won't pump and has to be turned off then back on and put in a full bucket of water to get going again. These are just my thoughts on the ato after setting it up and using it for about a month, it's a awesome unit but has a couple bugs and that makes me uneasy when it comes to ato's.

I have the big brother with the optical eye and have experineced the intitial priming issue of getting the water through the line. I have also had to reset the unit after my bucket ran out of water. The one you are looking at has no optical eye sensor and relies sole upon the float switch. the larger unit has an optical eye for water level and a float switch for overfill protection. I am using mine on my 16 gal neuvo in the back chamber so i am keeping the back area filled to where i want it and the display is controlled by the pump and height of the overflow.

My bad the one on the tank I take care of is the different model, the one with the optical eye.

So did anybody pick one of these up? Wondering how much water the pump is able to move within a 5-minute time-frame before it shuts down due to a possible malfunction. Sounds good in theory, but if it's capable of overflowing my tank within 5 minutes it would defeat the purpose.

Edit: Noticed something odd...most of the online vendors indicate the the auto-off feature activates after the pump has been run for 5 minutes. I checked the pdf on Tunze's site, and they actually say the pump has 2 safety settings: 1.8 minutes and 3 minutes.

They also indicate that the pump will only move about 0.4 gallons of water in 1.8 minutes with 2.5ft of head pressure. I'll probably be ordering one of these soon and seeing how much I like it.

I have one from autotopoff.com and have been using it for over 5 years with no problems, only thing is that you would need a pump that delivers the required head. I have a pretty good sized pump hooked up to it and have dialed down the flow with an inline valve that limits the top off to a drip. I will be ordering another one from them for my 90 gallon and will get the double switch controller to go with my BRS autotop off pump from my basement, just need to figure out how i will run the water line and an electrical cord down there through hardwood floors without drilling the floor.
