RO Water?

#1
I am looking for 10g or more of RO Water. I called our local fish store and she thought that I was nuts. Didn't know what I was talking about and told me to just put tap water in the fish tank and said it would be fine. Yea from what I was told from the friend I got my tank from he said absouletly do not put tap water in and said I needed RO Water. So, that is what I am looking for. Anybody around or half way near Keenesburg area can help a newbie out? THANK YOU!:D

you will need a continuing supply of RO water for water changes and top off from evaporation. Id look at buying an RO/DI unit to make your own. they make small ones if its for a nano tank.

If buying a ro/di unit is out of the question I would go to the closest fish store to you (not the one that said to use tap water) and get as many gallons as you can, of both salt water and ro/di

I beleve you can also use distilled water, most local grocery stores carry that. Since you have a small tank @ $.88 a gallon it would work until you can purchase an R/O unit.

I agree that you should invest in a RO/DI system, your friend is right in telling you to NEVER use tap water in your saltwater tank.

If you are looking for an inexpensive RO/DI unit, you can check out ebay. Look for a vender called "purewaterclub". they have a number of systems that they sell. I have purchased three units from them and have never had an issue. You can get a small 150 GPD unit for $74 with free shipping. I just ordered one last night and it has already shipped. (I have found that it is virtually as inexpensive to order a new unit from them as it is to replace all of the filters and membrane)

If you get your RO water from the grocery store, ie those self serve water stations, make sure that you check the water using a TDS meter. They are notorious for not changing the filters and membranes and the water can be as bad as tap water.
