Anyone in the club know where to get saltwater feeders? Currently feeding ghost shrimp but want to try and change it up.

Thanks!

I just buy regular Molles from Petco or Petsmart and place them in a plastic critter cage (with added holes for increased flow) in my sump. In the last 6 months I think I have lost 2 mollies within 24 hours of putting them directly into salt water, not too bad. I usually buy 4 or 6 at a time, then feed my Angler once ever 4 to 5 days.

Because Molly's are live bearers and reproduce like rabbits in freshwater tanks have you had any success with them breeding in your salt water?

Good question as mine had babies right after i got them but now it's been a while and i havnt seen anymore babies. The first ones seemed to all perish in the hang on filter or gobbled down.

they are in full salt so i won't if that prevents spawning.

Wanted to build up a population before setting loose in tank or sump.

Lazy fish. The girls are all massive but won't pop. That or entire spawns are disappearing before i see them despite looking at the tank morning and evening

They have pvc and some natural hair algae growing which they don't touch. Pretty much eat from my fingers. Thinking either longer gestation than i knew or just get eaten or sucked up fast. But first batch lasted a few days

I usually buy a mix of males and females in hopes that the have babies. It's worked 2 times for me....but the fry just get sucked into the filtration. I'm not at all set up to try and grow those babies into edible size snacks. If you had a separate tank set up to rear the fry, I think t is entirely possible....and I'd be jealous!

What I'm going to do is probably replace the hang on filters with a couple air stone foam filters I think is what's needed. (already have them) I was just trying to keep the bio filter in the hang on's ready in case of emergency QT needs.

Do you all put these in your DT or sump/fuge? I am thinking if they can be kept in the sump and grow out for food would be easy so long as there is a way to keep them from finding their way into a pump.

I'd imagine without like a foam divider at the top of the baffles, the babies will get swept over the top into next baffle into the skimmer or return pump. That's why I was trying to breed a bunch before display/sumping them.

I had one give birth in a nanocube 14. The babies swam around or a bit and I came back like 30 minutes later to collect them and they were already lost to the filter compartment. My guess is you need to snatch them up quick and have something like a 10g up and running with a bubbler in foam like Fitz19d said...

just a fyi be carful when feeding freshwater fish to marine fish. fw have higher fat levels and can cause sw fish to have liver problems that can lead to death. same principle as humans eating only fast food :funnyburger:
