Skimmer not working right

So I just received my [FONT=Arial, verdana, sans serif]Coralife 125 Gallon Super Skimmer Protein Skimmer Pump with new air silencer plugged it in and it does exactly the same thing the last pump was doing. Is it possible the impeller it came with is bad? Im used to seeing a little black plastic knob on the end of the ceramic shaft that runs through the magnet however no such end exists. Not sure if it needs one or could something else be wrong? Will post a pic in a sec[/FONT]

Soooo, just in case anyone is as dumb as I am. You can NOT test your skimmer in a bucket of fresh water lol. Skimmer is bubbling away now that its on the tank.

Lol. I never would have thought of that! Does that mean it was working all along? Or just the replacement works?

Lol well thanks for making me feel better. No the other pump works but the impeller is definitely shot and its too small for this tank anyway imho.
