What eats it? Have some yellow sponge that is infesting my lr! It's starting to grow up corals looking for something g that's reef safe and eats sponge.

Maybe an angel fish will but they may eat corals too. Best solution is reduce your nutrients and manual removal.

Haha manual remove from 200ibs of lr oh god help me!!
Lol. Then nutrient reduction as they feed of the excess nutrients or try an angel fish if you aren't too worried about the possibility of nipped corals.

I don't have any experience with angels personally but I have read that all of them may eat it

I had it in my tank, too. It pulls off fairly easily. Spend a few minutes pulling it out when you do water changes. Just hit the key spots at first, then expand out to the harder to reach stuff. Sponge is a good filter, so you don't want to get rid of all of it at once, and angels will not differentiate between sponge and corals.

I had a yellow sponge that I found while rearranging some rock work, thought it looked cool so I put it front and center in the light....it died off in like a week. Maybe turn some pieces to the light and see if that works? The sponges I have now are all on the dark side of the rock.

Charlie, let me know if you find something that works. I have the same problem right now with my 60 cube. However the sponge I have is black. I wouldn't care as much if it was yellow or any other color than black. LOL

This isnt an easy solution solution, but most sponges do not handle being exposed to air well at all, so if you pull any loose pieces of LR out of the tank (even for just a minute) most of it will probably die off. Since that isn't much of a permanent or easy solution, you could rig something up to spray air bubbles on the sponge in the tank (hold a powerhead at the water line so it is sucking in some air and direct the outflow to the sponge with some tubing). Or use an empty syringe to inject air into it. That way you wouldnt have to add something to the tank that might go after corals too.

I have heard that a quick peroxide dip will also kill off an sponge but thats only helpful if you can remove the rock and have nothing else on it that might not survive the dip.

People have always told me sponge is good so when I saw the first signs of it in my tank I left is alone despite the ugly black color. Now my advise to anyone that has sponge they don't like is get rid of it while its still a small piece.

My sponge has turned into a black cancer that is spreading out of control and so far is smothering everything in its path.
