Starting a new reef tank

#1
Hi everyone, today I made a new purchase, a 100 gallon aquarium. I currently have a 55 gallon reef setup that has been running for 10 months and I am wanting to transfer my rock, corals, and fish to the new system as soon as I can. I was wondering what is the quickest way to get my new tank ready for these inhabitants as I intend to make the new aquarium my primary tank. Any information you can provide is appreciated. My new (used) tank is currently soaking in water/vinegar to remove scaling and other deposits.

Thanks.

And to the ADDICTION!!!!

Are planning to use new sand and rock, or are you adding your existing stuff to additional new rock and sand?

The plan is to use new sand and some new rock, but I will be using existing rock from my current setup and changing the 55 gallon tank to a frag tank.

Just my opinion as I am by no means an expert but I would buy live caribsea sand from Aquamart thatbis already cycled and is wet, ready to go. If you use this and in conjunction with a cup or 2 of your old sand along with your current rock, you shouldn't see much of a cycle if any. If you can leave the old one up and running for a week while you pull the rock and get the new sand in, I would think you should be good to go. Again I am not expert and I am sure others will chime in with much more thought and experience than I. Good luck with the move!

+1 use new sand and some seeded rock from your other tank if you have no pests in your other tank i would do a 50% water change and put the old water in the new tank.... if i could make one suggestion i would say take your time setting it up and it will save u headaches in the future, i rushed my old tank @ setup and i was always changing things. Good luck and congrats on the up grade!

Thanks for the advice! Finally got my sand and rock in yesterday after a week of sanding and buffing the acrylic tank. I used 200 pounds of new caribsea aragonite and 50% of the water from my existing tank. The water is cloudy today but I imagine that should clear in the next few days.
